First big woodworking project

It took some learning but I have my first bench for woodworking. It's simple, inexpensive and made from 2by4s. The top is 1.5 inches of MDF and is 2' by 4' with a 1by6 inch skirt. There is a simple 6 inch vise on one side and I'm going to add a sliding stop on the close side.

Once I get working, I'm going to add some 3/4 inch dogs on the top...

All in all, I'm satisfied but I know that I've got to be cleaner on the base of things because my mitres on the skirt are off because the 2by4 structure is off.

Next, design and build a toy table for the boys...

Olympic Torch in Burlington, ON

The Torch - Burlington Mall

A bundled Marcus

A calm Owen

We got to Burlington Mall about an hour before the torch was to arrive. We parked, played in the van and then stood inside Zellers until it arrived.

We saw the Coke vans, the torch and tons of cops and RCMPs. There was even RCMP Tactical squads - two in fact, in their black trucks with the side door open. Not sure what who's going to try to attack the torch...Anyway, it was great to see. Something that won't happen again in my life time...hopefully, Marcus and Owen can take their kids to see a torch run some day.

What do you take to bed?

Okay, all of you that thought the title was dirty, you're dirty ;-) Mr. Owen has decided that he should line up his train at the end of his bed. He's also took a couple of bears and blankets with him.

Now, if only Dude #2 could close his eyes.

My truck is bigger than yours...

So I got home tonight and our contractor's F150 pickup truck is in the driveway next to our van. It was the first time that I thought our van looked small.

I guess that's one thing about life, someone always has a bigger truck. Or a better whatever. The first time I met our neighbours across the street, I was asked what toys I had. Since we don't own a boat, snowmobile or ATV, I wasn't part of the gang.

That's fine. I'm not terribly in debt nor do I flaunt the things I have. But I'll say this, I want an F150. To think that we could probably take the family, strollers, bikes for four, and clothes for a life time in the F150. We could live out of that truck...

To tweet or not to tweet

I'm getting into this tweet'n thing. My work is trying to figure out if there should have a Twitter account and what the benefits will be while the entire world has embraced the sweet tweet.

I'm now following about 52 different people and groups including many media outlets and even more social media people. I'm following most of the #30u30t - that's the Top 30 under 30 Tweeters.

I'm betting that most of the tweets out there are trivial and some are important but today I got so many tweets about Tiger Woods I was thinking how important people think our celebrities are and how something like a celebrity getting injured can spread throughout the Internet so quickly.

Well, I guess this is the age instant communication from anyone to everyone...tweet that ;-)

Marcus - to smile or not to smile...

More than 11 weeks old and Marcus is learning how to smile and make happy faces...
